This project reconfigures part of the existing single-family home into a 500-square-foot junior accessory dwelling unit (JADU), adding a code-compliant rental suite while keeping the primary residence intact.
Underutilized interior space with no separate living suite
The original home had continuous interior space with no separation for a self-contained unit—no independent kitchenette, no private entry, and limited sound and fire separation. The homeowners wanted to introduce a JADU within the main house to generate rental income while preserving privacy and everyday comfort for both households.

The JADU reuses existing conditioned space to control construction cost while introducing an independent entry, kitchenette, and bath, all aligned with California JADU regulations.
We upgraded fire separation, sound insulation, and egress to clearly distinguish the JADU from the main residence, protecting privacy and life safety for both occupants.
By keeping most structural walls in place and focusing on precise interior planning, the design delivers a high-value rental suite with minimal disruption to the primary home.
